🏆 How to Win the Week

(and eliminate the overwhelm)

WEEKS ARE THE REAL MVP

Setting weekly goals instead of daily ones was a game changer for me. While I do have a daily routine (see below), the key to my productivity (and maintaining my sanity as an entrepreneur/business owner) is focusing on weekly goals.

Weekly goals are more attainable and provide flexibility and grace. Let me give you a couple of examples.

Example 1: If you follow me on social media or subscribe to my newsletter at brentstromme.com, you know I set a goal of 1 Million Steps from June 24 through September 2, which is Labor Day and the final day of our FWI “Summer Breakthrough” Business Bootcamp.

The goal is to run/walk 15k steps each day. It’s going well, and I’ll definitely hit the target, but I don’t always meet the daily goal because, well, life happens. I might not feel well one day, or my day might be filled with travel.

So, I break it down week by week, aiming for 100k steps each week. If I only get 9,450 steps on a Tuesday, I don’t stress. I can make up for it by getting in 17,000+ steps on another day or two that week. Weekly goals give me wiggle room, space to recover, and relieve pressure.

Example 2: I’m updating my personal website as I aim to gain more speaking engagements this year and into 2025. I know I need to add some video footage of my speaking experiences. My One goal this week? Gather enough footage to create a montage for the homepage header.

You might think, “Why can’t you just get all that done in one day?” I’d love to, but finding clips on different devices and drives takes time and energy. Also, I’ve reached out to a few people who have video content of me speaking, and it might take them some time to find and deliver it.

Yes, I have other tasks I’m working on this week, but this is my ONE big goal. And I’ll have another one next week, and the week after that.

WHAT WORKS FOR ME

Just because this routine helps me stay focused and achieve my goals doesn't mean you have to adopt it. However, if you don't have a plan... well, I think mine is worth considering.

SUNDAY EVENING - 9 PM

I write down one goal for the week ahead. One. It might not sound like much, but when you look back on a year and see over 50 accomplished goals, it matters. 25 more weeks/goals to go in 2024!

DAILY ROUTINE

  • Wake Up Early and Hit the Road/Gym:

I take this time to think, pray, wonder, and enjoy some creative silence or get inspired by a podcast on the trail or treadmill.

  • Post-Gym Writing Session:

Spend the next hour jotting down all my thoughts and ideas so that I can put them into action at some point.

  • Late Morning Walk:

A 20-minute walk to clear my head for the midday grind.

  • Work:

Tackle projects and look for opportunities – always on the offense.

  • Evening Routine:

Make dinner, read on the deck, catch a show – just slow down.

FRIDAY NOON REVIEW

Since evaluation is the breakfast of champions, I assess whether I completed my weekly goal. If so, I celebrate with a “yay me!” 🎉 moment and take the afternoon off. #entrepreneurlife
