Treat Your Business Like a Puzzle

🧩 Putting the Pieces Together

STOP PREDICTING, START CREATING

I know, I know … I never thought I’d enjoy putting puzzles together, either. Maybe it’s because I’m old, longing to slow down or happen to live in a state where I’m stuck inside six months out of the year.

However, I think the real reason I get pleasure from completing a puzzle … is just that. Completing something.

As creatives and business owners, we find ourselves in perpetual motion. And just when we finally accomplish a project or task, we move on to the next thing without acknowledging or celebrating a job well done. That is not healthy, nor is it good for business.

Perhaps it’s time to treat your business like a puzzle. Here are three quick actions steps (and questions) to get you started …

1. REFER TO THE BOX 📦

You wouldn’t dump a box of puzzle pieces onto a table and start assembling them willy-nilly. The odds of finding which pieces fit together and where to place them would be frustrating and futile.

So, you do what I do … look at the box to see exactly what you’re trying to create. Without the big picture, without understanding what the goal is … business is, well, frustrating and futile.

❓What does your Big Picture look like? How can I help you clarify your goal and vision?

2. PIECE BY PIECE 🧩

We are so prone to multitasking and efficiencies that, even though we get more accomplished, we are left exhausted and still feeling behind.

One of the interesting aspects of assembling a puzzle is the fact that you do so piece by piece. Not two or three pieces at a time … just one.

And after you’ve found and placed the piece in its rightful space, you then pick up the next one. Piece by piece.

Some of you might be juggling a bunch of business responsibilities today, I get that. But you can’t get it all done without getting one thing done.

❓What one “piece” of your business puzzle needs completing soon? How can I help you with that?

3. MAKE SURE IT FITS 🔨

If it feels forced, it just might not be a good fit. We discuss numerous business strategies during our weekly “Five Words In” Zoom meetup calls. Some strategies “fit” for who you are and what you’re trying to accomplish. Other ideas and practices just plain don’t. Your business should bring you joy and satisfaction. If it doesn’t, find out what isn’t fitting just right and make a change.

❓What currently doesn’t “fit” quite right? How can I help you make the change?

I’m here for you. WE are here for you. 🫶
