AUDITING IS MY SHOPPING
I stopped at a quaint boutique in a small town in the middle of Nowheresville, USA today. Here are three quick takeaways from my excursion and experience:
I Was Sold on the Store Owner
While my wife shopped throughout the store, I had a 30 minute Q&A conversation with the owner of the shop. She was spectacular! All I could think was, āThis woman should be front and center in all her marketing efforts ⦠Iād buy things from her I donāt even need or want, just to support her business.ā
TAKEAWAY: People buy from people. Your personality and persona matters greatly. Show who you are, not just what you sell.

Small Business, Big Opportunity
This woman was a solopreneur. No staff, just her making things happen and making ends meet. I asked her if she wanted to grow her business, and she answered, āWell of course! But this town only has so many people to sell to.ā I wanted to remind her that there are 5 billion online customers who donāt live in her community that would be happy to buy her products, but I checked her website on my phone while we were chatting and saw that it was ātemporarily offlineā ⦠and I didnāt want her to feel bad by bringing it up. So I didnāt.
TAKEAWAY: Your website is your front door. If itās not working properly, it means the door is locked ⦠even if you think your shop is open.

Socially Acceptable for 2024
Even if social media is the bane of your existence, it still works. Not using social platforms for your business is like not wanting to fish cuz you have to put an icky worm on your hook. Get over it. This store owner was using only one social platform which I had trouble finding. She has time in a quiet shop to produce consistent content on two or three social media platforms that would reach a greater and more diverse audience ⦠which would garner more business.
TAKEAWAY: Consistent content on two or three platforms will bring more fish to your boat, cause a few to nibble or bite ⦠and you can just set the hook and reel āem in. Create a plan to produce in 2024.
