Yesterday, I worked with a client to help them identify a clear goal and path for their social media strategy. Let's face it—so much has changed (and continues to change) in the social media landscape, making it hard to keep up.

I broke it down into 3 buckets for them: Pillars, Platforms and Posts.

This is Part 1 of a 3-part series on Social Media Strategy. Today, it’s Pillars.

Pillars: Content Pillars are three to five key topics your business will consistently cover on social media. They help you create and organize content that aligns with your brand's goals, values, and target audience.

For example, as a business coach, I might focus on these content pillars:

  • Entrepreneurial Mindset and Personal Development: Tips on mindset, productivity, and work-life balance.

  • Business Strategy and Planning: Insights on business models, strategic planning, and growth.

  • Marketing and Branding: Strategies for digital marketing, branding, and social media.

  • Sales and Client Acquisition: Advice on sales techniques, lead generation, and customer management.

These pillars help create content that matches my expertise and meets my audience's needs.

Give your audience what they need and they’ll give you what you want: attention, engagement and conversion.
