🍳 One Breakfast Made Him a Believer

YOUR BUSINESS IS MY BUSINESS

Terrance: “Wait, so you actually make money from doing that? Like, for real?”

Me: “Yes. F’real.”

Terrance: “Oh, man, I gotta go call my wife right now, she needs to hear this!”

SEEING (AND HEARING) IS BELIEVING

Terrance has been building his consulting, coaching, and course business for nearly a year. He’s had his head down grinding away each day trying to get it to a point where he can make some money.

However, he wasn’t a believer. That is, until our breakfast conversation yesterday changed everything.

After 20 years as a corporate manager, Terrance embarked on the solopreneurial journey, but he’s been taking the “solo” part too literally.

“I’ve read so many books about entrepreneurs starting businesses and making real money. I’ve watched numerous YouTube videos about creating a business from an idea, and I marvel at how people can make it work,” he shared with me.

But he didn’t actually know any of those authors or producers. He just read and watched, wondering, “Can it really work?”

I spent 45 minutes over bacon and eggs sharing my entrepreneurial journey with Terrance, and he was awestruck that a simpleton like me, with no degrees or impressive SAT scores, could make a living doing exactly what he’s aspiring to do.

“I needed this,” he said. “It’s very easy to be skeptical until you see with your own eyes that anything is possible. Thank you for a breakfast I’ll never forget.”

Terrance is PRECISELY the reason I started Five Words In. It’s easy to be an unbeliever when no one around you is turning dreams into reality.

I told Terrance he needs to get out of his home office and into the streets.

In other words, I encouraged him to spend time with other entrepreneurs who are building a business and life they love. People like you and people like me. At coffee shops, at networking events, at conferences or on Zoom calls … just like we do every Thursday. Community is non-negotiable.
