I have conversations with potential customers and clients each week about business goals, metrics, new AI tools, marketing strategies, networking opportunities and more.

And while all that is well and good, none of them woke up with those things on their mind. They woke up with a problem. And they’re looking for someone to help solve it.

PROBLEM SOLVERS UNITE 🦸🏽‍♀️

The most important question I ask on any potential customer call is this: “How can I help you today so that you feel better about tomorrow?”

If I can help solve their problem, they will pay me money. I then go from “Mr. Problem Solver” to “Mr. Business Owner” in a blink of an eye. But my focus is never ever ever on building a business. I focus on solving a problem.

Solve a problem enough times and it morphs into a business. #BOOM 💣

I DO IT BECAUSE IT WORKS 📈

Just this week alone, people have responded to my “How can I help you today?” offer with:

• I want to get on podcasts, but I don’t know where to start. (I do 🤑)

• I’m giving a keynote talk soon, but I don’t know what to say. (I do 🤑)

• I need a speaker kit, but not sure how to put one together. (I do 🤑)

• I’m launching a new book and have no idea how to promote it. (I do 🤑)

What would a few bullet point problems look like in YOUR world?

Get clear on the problem you are solving, then actually ASK THEM how you can help solve said problem. They will pay you to make their problem go away.

Because it’s the first day of summer and I wanna hit the pool, here is a good exercise for your week ahead:

🔎 Look at your website, your social feeds, your newsletter, email signature, anywhere you have copy … is it clear what problem you are solving? If not, fix it.

🗣 Think through your conversations you have with current and potential clients/customers … are you asking how you can help serve them today? If not, do it.
