WHERE HUMP DAYS DON’T EXIST 🌎
I’ve had the honor of serving alongside the beautiful Venezuelan people in the slums of Caracas on two separate occasions.
The people I encountered were the poorest of the poor, living upon garbage dumps alongside rivers poisoned with raw sewage. Wildly crowded conditions, rampant crime and lack of employment added to the challenge of living day to day.
But, they did.
Each morning before the sun made an appearance, we loaded into the van pulling a trailer of supplies and materials and headed into the village. We labored day and night, replacing water systems, restoring schools, repairing huts and replenishing spirits.
Long days and nights in the sweltering heat blurred the calendar.
I noted that none of the locals I worked with wore a watch. We worked hard and diligently under the beating sun, never glancing down at our wrists or phones to determine time or progress.
When our bodies had given all they could, we just went home.
One morning while working alongside Oscar, an ambitious and respected community leader, I asked, “Hey, Oscar … what day is it?”
His response was telling. “New day.”
I retorted, “Yes, I know. So, is it Wednesday?”
“No. It’s NEW day.”
Again, “Wait … so you’re telling me it’s Thursday, right?” (I just needed to know, c’mon!)
He flashed his toothless smile and shared something with me that I’ll remember forever. “Brent, here, in this place … every day is just new day.”
Since then, I’ve had no Hump Days. And, tomorrow isn’t Thursday, it’s “new day” … which I plan to make the best of.
So today, be sure to dream, design, create, write, paint, sing, build.
